An interruption or tear of the cartilage (known as the labrum) along the outside of the hip socket.
The labrum aids in cushioning the hip joint, and acts as a seal or a ring holding the joint together.
Symptoms associated with a labral tear include hip pain, stiffness or limited range of motion of the joint. Sometimes, a locking or catching sensation is felt with movement of the joint.
